88 years ago Dinka Nelwalwe was the first mate of The Destiny of Heaven, an explorer’s/trader’s vessel. A viscous set of early winter storms hit that year. The captain was lost along with part of the crew and a few critical parts of The Destiny of Heaven. The southern fjords had been explored before, but somehow the one Dinka chose to get out of the rapidly freezing sea was different. After a few hours heading north the crew noticed that things were getting warmer. A meadow was found inside the fjord and the Destiny of Heaven was beached for repairs. As the repairs progressed access to inhabitable land was found. It was determined that the fjord was a bit warmer because of a hot spring feeding it.
Late spring saw The Destiny of Heaven sailing back to it’s home port in the tame border state of Silver Oaks. Dinka and a portion of the crew stayed behind to start settling what became Southport. The entry to the fjord was eventually marked with continual flames to allow access by trading ships and merchants.
